Events like this one help the Armed Forces to strengthen the bond with the society and ensure its further support which has already been record-breaking recently," Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said ahead of attend the Partisan Honouring, Public and Military Unity Day events in Tauragė City and region of Jurbarkas on May 18-19.

On May 16 the Lithuanian Armed Forces Defence Staff, Lithuanian Land Force Staff, and the 1st Territorial Unit of the National Defence Volunteer Force held a meeting with representatives of Marijampolė municipality to present Exercise Defender 2020 organised by the United States of America in Lithuania next year.

On May 14 DV and Media Day of Exercise Port Protection 2019 and international naval Operation Open Spirit 2019 held at the Cruise and Warship Terminal in Klaipėda concluded the port security exercise co-organised by the Lithuanian Navy and the NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters.

French warship to visit Klaipėda Seaport

On May 9-13 FS Pluvier (P678) patrol ship of the French Navy will be visiting Klaipėda Seaport. The ship's Commanding Officer will meet with leadership of the Lithuanian Navy, Mayor of Klaipėda Vytautas Grubliauskas, and visit the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

On May 6 the "Jolly Rogers" fighter aircraft of the Strike Fighter Squadron 103 of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group took part in in a Close Air Support exercise at Kazlų Rūda Training Area. Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) of the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces coordinated the CAS by identifying ground-based targets.

On May 8 Chief of Defence of Lithuania LT Gen Jonas Vytautas Žukas left for Iceland reciprocating his Icelandic counterparts visit. During the two-day visit he will meet with Director General of the Defence Directorate at Iceland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs Arnór Sigurjónsson, other high officials of the country, and visit Keflavik Airbase.

On May 3 a formal deployment ceremony for a joint instructors group formed by officers and NCOs of Juozas Lukša Training Centre, Military Academy of Lithuania and the Engineer Battalion was held before deployment to the Military Training Operation in Ukraine at Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion. It will replace instructors of Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion on the duty of assisting Ukrainians to reform, strengthen and bring their armed forces closer to NATO requirements in a joint effort with our allies at the Yavoriv International Peacekeeping and Security Centre. The Lithuanian troops will focus on supervision of and consultations concerning collective training conducted by Ukrainian instructors.

Klaipėda Seaport to host foreign warships arriving to participate in an international exercise

On May 3 roughly 15 warships from Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Germany, Latvia, Poland, France, and Turkey will moor at Klaipėda Seaport. The majority of them are sailing in to take part in international maritime operation Open Spirit, the largest exercise so far organised by the Lithuanian Navy this year. Lithuanian warship will also participate in the exercise.

On May 1-2 Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces General Jonathan H. Vance and a delegation were conducting a formal visit in Lithuania.

On May 2 the guest was given a formal welcome in front of the Ministry of National Defence and met with Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Jonas Vytautas Žukas, and other representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
