First Vilkas Infantry Fighting Vehicles officially handed over to Lithuania

On July 9 first two of the 88 Vilkas Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) produced to the Lithuanian Armed Forces by a German manufacturer were formally handed over to Lithuania. The IFVs will be designated to the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf. The purchase fills in a capability gap in the Lithuanian Land Force.

Seven Lithuanian servicemembers deployed to Iraq with NATO forces

On July 7 seven soldiers of the Deployable Communication and Information Systems Module (DCISM) of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Communication and Information Systems Battalion were deployed for a half-year rotation to Iraq in composition of the NATO Signal Battalion, currently on standby for the NATO Response Force (NRF).

On July 3 soldiers deploying to multinational operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Ukraine were formally seen off at a ceremony at the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin. The troops were presented with flags of the Republic of Lithuania blessed by Chaplain of the Lithuanian Navy Lt Cdr Remigijus Monstvilas.

On June 26 - July 3 soldiers of Lithuania and the United Kingdom assigned to the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) trained joint actions at the Lithuanian Armed Forces training area in Kairiai (Klaipėda region). The exercise at Kairiai was the final phase of the Baltic Protector deployment of the JEF Maritime Task Group which began back in late May in the Baltic Sea.

Portuguese rotational force has arrived to train alongside Lithuanians

On July 3 soldiers of the rotational force of Portugal were formally welcomed at the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin in Klaipėda.  The Portuguese rotational force will be training together with units of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin  until September.

On June 30 multinational special operations forces Exercise Flaming Sword 2019 wrapped in Lithuania. Participants of the month-long exercise trained arranging resistance in the captured part of a country. Main attention at the exercise was given to enhancing cooperation between NATO allies and partners in a resistance propelled by the special forces and the collective defence of the Baltic region.

On June 26-July 3 British soldiers of the headquarters company of the 3 Commando Brigade assigned to the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) are sharing experience with colleagues from units of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin and the National Defence Volunteer Force Žemaičiai Military District at the Lithuanian Armed Forces General Povilas Plechavičius Training Area (Kairiai, Klaipėda region).

Defence Ministers and Chiefs from the nine partner nations of the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force will meet on 28 June in Klaipėda, Lithaunia, to mark the one-year anniversary of the force reaching full operating capacity.

On June 25-26 NATO air capabilities will be training in the Baltic countries' airspace at scheduled live-flying Exercise Ramstein Alloy 19-2. The objective of the series of annual exercises is to hone command and control of NATO airspace surveillance and control, air policing and other capabilities in the Baltic region. The exercise will train search and rescue procedures, loss of communication management and air-refuelling.

On June 19-20 commanders of the Multinational Logistics Coordination Centre (MLCC) met in Sutomore-Bar (Montenegro) to present the work done in 2019 and still ahead. Lithuania was represented by Commander of the Logistics Command Col Ramūnas Baronas at the event.
