Cooperation agreements between the Lithuanian Land Force and the Pennsylvania National Guard to be signed

On September 13 military cooperation agreements of the Lithuanian Land Force and the 28th Infantry Division (28ID) of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and subordinate units will be signed in Vilnius.


The documents will embed the ambition of the Lithuanian Land Force Headquarters to develop a division-level command and control (C2) capability. The 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard commits by the agreements to, as much as possible, arrange exercises for Lithuanian Land Force HQ staff personnel, to include Lithuanian soldiers into division training, to assist in exercise planning, development of new capabilities and arrangement of provision to them, and introduction of procedures. The Lithuanian Land Force commits to voicing the need, to plan and to create conditions for 28ID personnel to take part in the exercises of the Lithuanian Land Force HQ C2 capability.


The agreement between the Lithuanian Land Force and the PANG 28ID will be signed by Land Force Commander Brigadier General Raimundas Vaikšnoras and Assistant Division Commander Brigadier General Mark McCormack.


Agreement on subordinate units' military cooperation will be signed along with the main document: the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf will enter into cooperation with the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28ID, and the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin - with the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 28ID. The commitments made are the same as by the main document, only of a lower, brigade, level.


The signature ceremony will take place on September 13 at 1400 hrs at the Lithuanian Land Force HQ (Viršuliškių 36, Vilnius).

26 years of defence cooperation of the Lithuanian Armed OFRces and the Pennsylvania National Guard saw numerous joint events, from experience exchange in at training events, workshops, meetings, and military exercises, to taking part together in the international operation in Afghanistan in 2009-2012. Soldiers of the Pennsylvania National Guard are constantly training in military exercises in the Baltic states and Lithuanian soldiers are taking part in exercises, instructor training programmers and other events in Pennsylvania.
